Sophia Aneziri graduated in the Department of History and Archeology at the University of Athens (1989). From 1990 to 1997 she studied in a postgraduate level at the University of Heidelberg with scholarships of the Greek State and of the state of Baden-Wurttemberg. In 1997 she held her PhD on Ancient Greek History and Epigraphy from the University of Heidelberg. She has taught Ancient Greek History in the Ionion University, the University of Crete and this of Thessaly (1998-2001) and was tutor in the Open University of Greece (2001-2021). She worked (2002-2003) at the National Research Center for the publication of Index du Bulletin épigraphique (S. Aneziri, N. Giannakopoulos, P. Paschidis, Index du Bulletin épigraphique 1987-2001. Mελετήματα 43, Aθήνα 2005). Since 2004 she teaches Ancient Greek History and Epigraphy at the Department of History and Archaeology in the University of Athens. She was visiting fellow at the All Souls College in Oxford (2011) and at the Kommission für Alte Geschichte und Epigraphik in Munich (2017).

Director of the project and the website "Nautilos. Selection of ancient Greek inscriptions and papyri" funded by the Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (ELIDEK) in the framework of the Action "Science and Society".
Teaching activity
Introductory courses in History of the Hellenistic and Roman Imperial period and in the Ancient Greek Epigraphy. Under- and postgraduate seminars on social, financial and religious phenomena based primarily on inscriptions (e.g. mobility and networks, evergetism, festivals and contests, associations).
