Eleftherios Michail (Lefteris) Platon was born in Herakleion, Crete and studied archaeology in the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 1988, he received his Phd from the University of Bristol, United Kingdom, on the ‘Minoan working areas’. Between 1994 and 2002, he taught Prehistoric Archaeology in the University of Crete and in the University of the Aegean and he worked for the Greek Archaeological Service in the Ephorate of Antiquities in the Dodecanese. From 2002 onwards, he has been teaching in the Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Athens, at the moment as an Associate Professor. Since 2018, he is a member of the Council of the Archaeological Society of Athens, while he has been a regular member of the Central Archaeological Council in the past.

He is the author of many articles published in academic magazines and of a small number of books and has taken part in a large number of international congresses on special subjects of the Aegean Prehistory. A big part of his work refers to the study and publication of excavation material coming from Nikolaos Platon’s excavations in various Minoan sites, mainly Zakros, but also others in the Viannos and Siteia regions.

From 1992 onwards, he directs, on behalf of the Archaeological Society of Athens, the Project of Conservation and Publication of the Zakros Excavations Finds (“Zakros Project), which aims to the final scientific publication of the results of the research in the Minoan palace and settlement at this site.
